House Tour: Part 2

July 28, 2011

Let's take a quick "jaunt" up the stairs and take a look around the second floor of our abode... (again, these photos we're taken during our first tour):

While the stairs may look like a sleek black in this shot, do not be fooled! In actuality, they are an icky navy blue that has seen a lot of rugged wear. More shots to come. All the walls here are oil as well :( But the potential is there - I'm envisioning wainscoting and a creamy yellow much like the lovely Sandra's from over at Sawdust & Paper Scraps... maybe I can find a way to faux the lovely wood stairs and railings.

View from the landing... check out my cubby hole! I love it! Since we moved in, I had put up a cute $7 curtain to disguise the area as I am sure it will get cluttered over time. Although, this little creature had another idea:

Annie's idea was to rip it down and mummify herself with the curtain. And then maybe have a good chew on the rod.  And hey, who am I to judge? New ownership of both house and puppy is teaching me that while some decor inspirations are great, we may not be ready. Such as new rugs for living and dining area. Bad idea! I digress...

View from master bedroom - loving the HUGE rad that keeps us really cozy. The stained carpet? No love there, more loathe. When we recently bought hardwood to install in the kitchen, we bought enough to eventually get rid of this stuff. Aside from looking ugly, both my guy and I have some pretty nasty dust allergies and this carpet is definitely a culprit. Look a little closer and you can see the shelving at the end of the hall. I'm still at odds as to what I should do about that. I want to store towels there but it's a bit of an eyesore, hey?

Master bedroom! I think this is my favorite room! Again, the navy blue floor paint is present here, but I have already tackled that and the results were glorious. I will share soon! This shot was taken before we moved in so none of this furniture is ours. The fireplace was repaired after our home inspection revealed it was not lined and crumbling in the attic. We ended up getting a large reduction in the price as all three fireplaces and furnace needed to be repaired. We were happy to do it though as these pretty features will kick out some major cost saving heat when Winter comes.

Ignoring wonderful Ian, this is the view form over by the bed - it used to be two, very small rooms and long ago, someone had the bright idea to expand and conquer. Now the room is just the right size. The closet is extremely deep and we have this cute thing hiding next to it:

In our offer on the house, we asked for this to be kept. It just fit in there too perfectly to let it go. So there's a lot of storage in this room which is huge for us. We both came from bedrooms at our parent's house that did not have closets. I feel so grown up!

And so I'll finish off this installment of the tour with the bathroom - and then we'll just have the spare rooms and exterior to check out.

Sorry for the crap quality of these photos; I was in a rush and the then-owners had to get back into the house! But anyway! Not too shabby, as the owners did a quick reno prior to listing. I love the bead board and tile... but the color really gets me. It's not very often that colors really evoke a feeling of anxiety inside me but this one just really hits a hard note with me.

I went to go totally retro with this bathroom as soon as we moved in. That color was calling to me at night and I just had to get it gone as quickly as possible! I'll post some photos of the before and after very soon - just finishing up accessorizing the room! But I will say that I splurged on some Amy Butler goodness. So until the the next tour...
